Mount Shasta
July 4th 1998


The Running Springs Fourteener Hogs took on the snow and ice covered Mount Shasta over the July 4th holiday. Below is a small sample of the stark beauty and views from 14,162 feet.
Friday - An 11 hour drive day, Running Springs to Redding.

Saturday - Drive to Mt. Shasta. Meet Dugun our mountaineering instructor, drill and practice with crampons and ice axe until 5 PM, hike back to parking lot, pickup backpacks, hike to base camp - 8,000 feet.

Sunday - Up at 1 AM, quick breakfast and start climb with head lamp, lunch at 12,000 feet, summit at 2 PM, glissaded back to camp 5 PM, pack-up and hike to cars, eat and drive back to Redding, shower, hit sack about 9 PM.

Monday - An 11 hour drive day home to Running Springs.
