Siebe Gorman & Co. LTD
Neptune Works
Chessington Surrey, England

Augustus Siebe, world known for inventing the first deep sea helmet in 1830, also has the first patented Smoke Helmet. This billows was used to supply air to the Smoke Helmet. The foot pedal was used to pump air into a second bellow, there is a tension spring under the second bellow that keeps the flow constant as you pump, the air goes thru a diaphragm and out to the helmet. The production dates range from 1850 to the 1950,s.
There are two metal tags, One reads: "Siebe Gormna & Co. LTD, Neptune Works, Chessington Surrey. Manufacturers of Mine and Safety Appliances. Everything for Safety Everywhere"
Note: Misspelling of name
Check pedal below.

I am by no means an expert on Siebe Gorman history. The follow information is from the treasurer of the Historical Diving Society West Midlands, England. He claims to be an expert on the Siebe family and company history. He said these were made starting in 1850.
I recently received additional information that the factory moved to Chessington in 1941 and their last address was Cwmbran, Wales.

Gorman Helmet
This picture was sent to me by another collector in England. If anyone has a helmet to go with this pump I would be most interested in talking and if there are any museum curators or collectors who would like to share any info I will post it.
